The picture is many many years old

Laura is 18. She is attending Whitman College,
with interests in chemistry, premed, and music. Her current plan is
to become a medical doctor and work in a third world country.

Laura graduated from the Thomas Jefferson High School of Science and
Technology. She is basically a 4.0 student. Her class work included
organic chemistry and five years of Japanese.

Laura is a musician. She played the violin in the American Youth
Philharmonic for three years. The orchestra has performed several times
in Kennedy center. Her string trio and quartets have performed in foreign
consulates, the Library of Congress, and many weddings.

Laura also sings and has been been in several church musicals.
Her most dramatic role was as Eve in the Children of Eden.
Dad doesn't like to cry in public. Let's say this was a close call
Laura expressed Eve's curiosity and wanting to know what is beyond wonderfully.
That is the way she is. All three lead performers gave powerful performances.
In the story line, the burden of mankind being cast out of the Garden of Eden
was carried mostly by Eve. Laura's portrayal of caring this burden to
her death was deeply moving.

The summer after her sophomore year Laura went with a church group to
Kibwazi,Kenya. Every third year the church sends a group to help in further
developing a Polytechnic School. Laura helped mostly as a cook. When a goat
was born on her birthday it was named Laura. The trip was profound experience,
revealing the merits of strong interpersonal relationships that often get lost in big
cities and technologically advanced societies. Laura came back committed
more than ever to spending more time with friends and to put her values into practice

Laura had already spent years organizing church adults and youth for weekly
visits to serve breakfast to the homeless in D.C. at Miriam's kitchen.
Recently the D.C. branch of the United Way honored Laura and many other
youth for their volunteer efforts. In a filmed interview Laura was asked
about being a person who would change things in the future. Laura suggested
that the youth being honored were changing things now.
