Residents of the Commonwealth of Virginia and certain teaching and
research assistants are eligible for in-state tuition rates. For Current rates

Students with graduate assistantships must be in degree status and must carry
at least 6 credit hours each semester. University and departmental support on
a competitive basis is available for teaching and research assistantships. Applicant
for financial aid shoul take GRE exams. International students must acheive a
score of 600 or above on the TOEFL. International student for teaching assistantships
should aslo take a test of spoken English. Teaching assistants may conduct discussion
sections; grade quizzes, homework and papers; proctor examinations; and conduct
office hours. Research assistants aid professors in sponsored research. Research
assistantships are usually reserved for the more senior students. There are also
a number of university-wide graduate fellowships for which our students have been
quite competitive.
