Dr. Adalbert Wilhelm received his diploma in mathematics from the University
of Augsburg, Germany, in 1988. He received the Ph.D. degree in mathematical
statistics from the University of Augsburg in 1993. Until his Ph.D. he
worked in the Department of Stochastics and its Applications (Chair: Prof.
Dr. Friedrich Pukelsheim). During that period he concentrated on computational
problems that occur in the field of Design of Experiments. He brought special
interest towards differentiability conditions of information functions,
especially the E-optimality criterion. Based on nondifferentiable optimization
techniques he implemented an algorithm for finding optimal designs.
After his Ph.D. he helped establishing the new Department of Computeroriented Statistics and Data Analysis (Chair: Prof. Dr. Antony Unwin). His work now concentrates on the use of interactive statistical graphics in the analysis of real-life data sets, in parrticular, those with a geographic component.
Currently for one year, he is on leave from the University of Augsburg under a grant (Habilitandenstipendium) of the German Research Foundation (DFG).
Dr. Wilhelm is a member of the American Statistical Association, the Interface Foundation, the International Statistical Association and the Fachgruppe Stochastik der Deutschen Mathematiker Vereinigung.
