ABSTRACT

Scatterplot brushing is a well-known method in exploratory data analysis. It is available in many statistical software packages, but this method of selecting subsets of the data in one plot and propagating this selection to another plot is in not restricted to scatterplot matrices only. Based on a formal description of this process, extensions of selecting and linking to other plot types are given. Analogously, linking can not only be established for data subsets, but also for other graph elements. Examples will be presented using MANET which is a current research software project at the Department for Computer-oriented Statistics and Data Analysis at the University of Augsburg.
