Image Gallery

Welcome to the Image Gallery of the Statistics-at-George-Mason-University Web Page. The Gallery contains a variety of images that are either interesting, historic, embarrassing, funny, or perhaps all of the above. The Gallery is divided into a number of rooms. Some rooms may suit your interests better than others, but you are welcome to browse them all. Each room will have a number of small images with a bit of narrative about the image. By clicking on a small image you can get a larger image. You can also see some images associated with faculty biosketches. By in large, the faculty biosketches contain wishful-thinking images of most of us when we were 5 to 10 years younger and had more hair. The images here are more likely to represent faculty, staff, and students as they are.

The Chairman's Closet

This room contains some images of the Department Chairman, Rich Bolstein.

The Director's Den

This room contains some images of the Center Director, Ed Wegman, at some stages of his professional life including images of what he believes are some significant professional events and people.

The Secretary's Sauna

This room contains some images of our Executive Secretary, Elizabeth Quigley. Liz's office is a focal point of the Department. Sometimes things heat up in her office.

The Faculty Foyer

The Foyer contains portraits of faculty doing things that perhaps should not be seen in polite company, such as eating, teaching, or looking dumb.

The Staff Studio

The hard-working staff are shown in this room. The staff room contains images of some of our current staff as well as some of the staff who have moved on to other positions.

The Student's Cellar

Our students are, of course, the group to which we all direct our efforts. There are approximately 60 students enrolled in our Master's program and about thirty in the two Ph.D. programs. Not all are yet represented in the Student's Cellar, but the Cellar does contain a few of the more notorious ones. (These are mostly those who had the misfortune to be around when the Chairman had his trusty camera ready.)

The Graduate's Garage

This room contains images of some of our graduates. Yes, Virginia, we do actually graduate students, although sometimes some of them seem beyond hope. Any statistics graduate can assure his or her portrait hangs here by contributing to the GMU Foundation's fund for computational statistics (or probably by just asking).

The Visitor's Veranda

We have some long term as well as shorter term visitors. This room is in honor of our distinguished visitors.

The Research Arcade

This gallery contains some of the images from our statistical and scientific visualization and graphics work. Descriptions of this work can be found in our technical reports and publications some of which are listed in the technical report list under the Center for Computational Statistics and some of which are located in individual resumes.
