About the Statistics at George Mason University Graphic

The graphic is a 24-bit color graphic completed in CorelDraw by Edward J. Wegman. It was then converted to an 8 bit gif file. The left-most section shows the outline of the world and its geographic boundaries signifying the social and political dimensions of statistical methodology. Immediately to the right is a rendition of the solar radiant energy representing the impact of statistical methodology on the natural sciences. Next is a silicon wafer on which are constructed microprocessors, this representing aspects of computational statistics. Finally, on the extreme right is a welder representing the engineering and manufacturing dimensions of statistics. On some viewers with significant dithering , some details of the graphic may not be fully visible.
